Personalized Care For Your Spine

Techniques

To better serve a wider range of potential patients, we incorporate the Palmer Package, a group of techniques which include Toggle Recoil, Diversified, Thompson and Gonstead. We seek to apply as gentle a force as necessary to achieve desired corrective movement.

Treatments

Physiotherapy: Many therapeutic modalities are used at Dalton Chiropractic when necessary for patients to reach their maximum potential in a timely manner. These include therapeutic ultrasound (decrease inflammation and promote healing), muscle stimulation (relax tight and painful muscles), iontophoresis (strong anti-inflammatory treatment) and trigger point work (helps muscles relax).

Dr. Dalton prescribes at home stretching and strengthening programs specifically designed for each patient according to their specific injury. These exercises aid the patient in avoiding re-injury and help the patient to get the greatest value out of their chiropractic treatment.

Some cases require more intense physical therapy then what a chiropractic office is set up to provide. In these cases, Dr. Dalton will refer that aspect of care out to local PT's. Dr. Dalton has a great history of collaborating with PT's on the patient's behalf when necessary to achieve maximum relief and a permanent fix.

Non-surgical Spinal Decompression: Spinal decompression is perhaps the best way to directly address and fix herniated or bulging discs. By introducing decompressing force to the damaged or degenerated area, a negative pressure develops within the disc itself. This negative pressure or vacuum causes a gradient favorable for fluid transfer from the external disc to the internal disc, which results in an increase height and return to a more normal-shaped disc. Increased height and shaping can lessen the pressure on the spinal cord and its nerves in the affected area causing better nerve function, less pain, and greater mobility. Depending on the severity of the condition, people usually need a series of treatments to improve. With this treatment, there is usually no down time; people can go back to their usual activities or work immediately. Dr. Dalton has experience in helping many people avoid surgery by using decompression treatments.

Spinal decompression is not traction. Decompression is slow, pumping of the spinal column in stages as opposed to the single static pull of traction. Our muscles have sensory receptors that cause the muscle to contract and protect itself and joints it crosses. This is how a knee jerk reflex works. In this way, the muscles that stabilize the spinal column actually contract during traction. This increases the pressure on the disc and causes the opposite of the desired effect when treating herniated and bulging discs. Because of the slower, gradual pull of decompression, the spinal muscles are able to relax to allow the desired negative pressure on the disc.
